The road runs here just next to the river that ends up in the fertile plain of Neo Koutali - Atsiki (NW of the Bay of Moudros). At this spot, the valley is not so fertile at all. Just fertile enough for some phrygana to feed sheep and goats. Along the river, you will see a small ribbon of green bushes and trees. The valley sides are cut into the flysch, and have no or barely soil.
