Camariñas' most popular beach is in the parish of Xaviña. It has amazing views and is surrounded by a pine grove with tables, benches and grills. Quiet and family friendly, it is 1.160 m long and 30 m wide.
The Association of Shellfish Gatherers gather shellfish, on foot and at sea, in the O Ariño area, because of its rich shellfish resources. Gathering shellfish on foot is one of the world´s oldest seafood extraction methods. It's a manual labour, with no mechanical support except for the use of small implements such as hoes and rakes to scrape the earth. Shellfish is also gathered at sea, from boats, in shallow areas. Gathering shellfish in such a way is artisanal and sustainable. On the turning of the tides, you will see more than 100 shellfish gatherers at work, mostly women (only one fourth are men), collecting cockles and Manila, carpet shell and grooved carpet shell clams. In the summer, you can book a guided tour at the Tourist Information Office (Ph. +34 981 736 340)
Remember! This is a professional activity. Seashore foraging is illegal.
Every year since the late 1960s, July 25 is celebrated as the Festa da Praia . Traditional music is performed all through the day and picnics are organized in St. James' day, Galicia's national holiday.
