The Church of San Giuliano is one of the oldest Catholic places of worship in Erice, dedicated to San Giuliano, martyr in 254 AD. It was so important that Mount Erice was called Mount San Giuliano until 1934.
Among the Normans in 1080 it was a small church in Gothic style, parish church of the district of the same name. It was rebuilt and adapted in the period between 1612 and 1645. The bell tower outside the church, adjacent to the right, with a characteristic pagoda roof, was built in 1770. Due to the collapse of the central nave in 1926 , the church was in disrepair until recent restorations closed for worship. The valuable furniture and silverware were moved elsewhere.
Start of extensive restoration work , reopening on December 26 , 2005.
