We will soon be changing the features in the free version of RouteYou.
It will now only be possible to use a route for navigation, print or download the GPX with a Plus subscription.
➡️ There will be no significant changes for Plus users. Plus users can still access all the familiar features — and will get even better value for their money. In other words, RouteYou Plus now offers even more benefits.
➡️ Free users can still search and view all routes free of charge. Using routes for navigation, printing or downloading the GPX will now only be possible for routes offered by professional accounts or routes shared by Plus users throughPower Share.
Why the change?
Since we started in 2006, we have been trying to keep RouteYou partly free through revenue from ads. But, since 2021, that revenue has become half of what it was, while user numbers have grown tenfold. On top of that, stricter privacy regulations make it increasingly difficult to show ads while guaranteeing your privacy.
⚖️ To continue to offer the best of RouteYou in the future, we need to strike a healthy balance between the costs of free usage and revenue from ads.
💡 It's like using a library: you can search and browse through everything, but you need to be a member to borrow books. RouteYou Plus is that membership.
