Admiring the Dokkum city canals from the water: This is much more impressive than viewing them from land! This SUP and canoe/kayak route runs through the historic center of Dokkum.

While navigating through the canals of the Eleven Cities Tour city Dokkum, you can periodically stop at a cafe terrace by the water. Along the way, you will pass numerous historical buildings, the bastions, and the two distinctive windmills Zeldenrust and De Hoop.

Duration of the trip
This route is a total of 3 km long. Beginner water enthusiasts paddle about 3 km per hour and will take about 1 hour to complete this route.

Bridges in Friesland
There are several bridges along this route. With a SUP board or canoe or kayak, almost all bridges can be easily passed. Is there a problem with a bridge or a culvert? Order is half of life – even on the water!
One thing should be clear: It is forbidden to throw waste into the water. If you spot any waste in the water while out, please take it with you in your canoe/kayak or on the SUP board. For the sake of nature!

Information about waterways
Part of the route is a waterway of category DM. Such waterways may be navigated by boats with a maximum draft of 1.3 m and a height of 2.3 m. The southern part of the route is also suitable for larger boats. This route is therefore also suitable for trips with a (electric-powered) sloop.
