Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, la biblioteca de la universidad, que entonces estaba situada en el aula de la universidad, fue destruida por un incendio. Con fondos estadounidenses, en 1921 se construyó un nuevo edificio de biblioteca, según los planes de Whitney Warren, en estilo renacentista flamenco. Las cientos de piedras talladas que se han incorporado en el edificio recuerdan a las donaciones. En la fachada central se encuentran los bustos de la Reina Isabel, el Rey Alberto y el Príncipe Leopoldo. En la parte superior en bajorelieve, el incendio del aula de la universidad. En las fachadas laterales, imágenes de las sedes sapientiae y del cardenal Mercier. La biblioteca contiene más de tres millones de volúmenes.
