Durante la prima guerra mondiale, la biblioteca dell'università, allora situata nell'Aula Universitaria, fu distrutta da un incendio. Con fondi americani, nel 1921, secondo i progetti di Whitney Warren, fu costruito un nuovo edificio per la biblioteca, in stile rinascimentale fiammingo. I centinaia di pietre scolpite incorporate nell'edificio ricordano le donazioni. Sulla facciata centrale ci sono i busti della Regina Elisabetta, del Re Alberto e del Principe Leopoldo. In alto, in bassorilievo, l'incendio dell'Aula Universitaria. Sulle facciate laterali immagini delle sedes sapientiae e del cardinale Mercier. La biblioteca contiene più di tre milioni di volumi.
