El canal de Lisseweegs es una antigua vía fluvial entre Brujas y el mar. Inicialmente, había entre el mar y el pueblo el "olievliet" y entre Ter Doest y Brujas el "Lissewegeree". Estos dos cursos de agua fueron conectados a principios del siglo XIII por un canal excavado que atravesaba el montículo de la aldea, que en algunos lugares se eleva 4 metros sobre el nivel del mar. El canal fue inicialmente utilizado como ruta de suministro para la piedra azul de Tournai en la construcción de la iglesia y la abadía. Más tarde también como ruta comercial hacia Brujas y hacia el mar. En Zwankendamme - el antiguo Swaenendamme - había un esclusa y una transferencia. Una piedra de fecha aún se puede ver Anno 1773. Hay tres puentes de piedra sobre el canal: el Tiendebrug, el Heulebrug y el Roelandsbrug. Durante los meses de verano, hay miles de flores a lo largo de las orillas, aproximadamente 35 especies diferentes.
