El parque Hanssens, con una superficie de 6 ha, está ubicado junto a la estación de Vilvoorde.
Este parque fue creado hace aproximadamente un siglo en tierras pantanosas justo fuera de las murallas de la ciudad. El parque se estableció por encargo del ayuntamiento, probablemente en colaboración con la escuela de horticultura local.
El parque se diseño en el estilo paisajístico inglés romántico, bastante clásico para la tendencia general de la época. En el centro se creó un estanque que se utiliza como estanque de pesca. De hecho, se dio forma a una antigua charca que encajaba en el conjunto del parque. Cabe destacar el hermoso puente colgante de hierro sobre un estrechamiento del estanque. Este puente colgante se instaló a 3,5 m por encima del nivel del agua.
El parque Hanssens fue reabierto en 2004 después de una renovación exhaustiva.
