El río Mosa (o Meuse en francés) nace en Francia en Pouilly-en-Bassigny, en la meseta de Langres. El río atraviesa las Ardenas francesas y Lorena en dirección norte y pasa por las ciudades de Verdún y Sedan, desde donde es navegable. En Givet, al sur de Dinant, cruza la frontera con Bélgica. El Mosa se desvía hacia el este en Namur (confluencia con el Sambre) y a través de Andenne y Huy llega a la mayor concentración urbana a lo largo de su curso: Lieja y sus alrededores. Más allá de esta zona industrial, el Mosa se desvía hacia el norte para alcanzar la frontera holandesa más allá de Visé.
