El castillo de Genoelselderen y su entorno están llenos de historias históricas. El castillo se encuentra en la antigua vía romana que conectaba Tongeren con Colonia. En el bosque detrás del castillo hay un túmulo galo-romano. La primera mención del castillo data de finales del siglo XIII. Hasta 1718, el castillo perteneció a la noble familia d'Elderen (una línea prominente: Jean-Louis d'Elderen fue príncipe-obispo de Lieja). El castillo fue destruido durante la Revolución Francesa. El actual propietario, Jaap van Rennes, es un distante descendiente de Jean III de Renesse des Éperons d'or.
