Description

Le château de Genoelselderen et ses environs regorgent de récits historiques. Le château se situe sur l'ancienne voie romaine qui reliait Tongres à Cologne. Dans la forêt derrière le château se trouve un tumulus gallo-romain. La première mention du château remonte à la fin du treizième siècle. Jusqu'en 1718, le château appartenait à la famille noble d'Elderen (une illustre lignée: Jean-Louis d'Elderen était prince-évêque de Liège). Le château a été détruit pendant la Révolution française. L'actuel propriétaire, Jaap van Rennes, est un lointain descendant de Jean III de Renesse des Éperons d'or.
