En el sitio donde a finales del siglo XIX se construyó el Hospital Militar, alguna vez estuvo ‘Fortje 4 de Berchem’. Formaba parte del precursor del cinturón de Brialmont. Hoy en día, el Verde Barrio forma un agradable parque residencial libre de coches (8 ha) en la ciudad. En la antigua capilla, Sergio Herman abrió el restaurante The Jane.
