On the site where the Military Hospital was built at the end of the nineteenth century, once stood 'Fortje 4 of Berchem'. It was part of the precursor to the Brialmont belt. Today, 't Groen Kwartier forms a pleasant, car-free residential park (8 ha) in the city. In the former chapel, Sergio Herman opened restaurant The Jane.
