Guillaume Lambert, el ingeniero belga y profesor de minería en la Universidad Católica de Lovaina que fue un motor detrás de la explotación del carbón de Kempen, nació en el pueblo de Grand-Halleux el 6 de abril de 1818.
Guillaum Lambert también redescubrió la fuente del agua mineral Bru cuya explotación había sido detenida por los monjes de la abadía de Stavelot durante la Revolución Francesa.
