Guillaume Lambert, l'ingegnere belga e professore di ingegneria mineraria presso l'Università Cattolica di Lovanio, che fu un motore dietro l'estrazione del carbone di Kempen, nacque nel villaggio di Grand-Halleux il 6 aprile 1818.
Guillaume Lambert riscoprì anche la sorgente dell'acqua minerale Bru, la cui sfruttamento era stato interrotto dai monaci dell'abbazia di Stavelot al tempo della Rivoluzione Francese.
