Guillaume Lambert, de Belgisch ingenieur en professor mijnbouw aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven die een drijfveer was achter de ontginning van de Kempens steenkool, werd geboren in het dorpje Grand-Halleux op 6 april 1818.
Guillaum Lambert herontdekte ook de bron van het mineraalhoudend water Bru waarvan de uitbating door de monniken van de abdij van Stavelot ten tijde van de Franse Revolutie was stopgezet.
