Rochelinval tuvo su lugar en la Batalla de las Ardenas. 250 miembros del 551.º Batallón de Infantería Paracaidista recibieron la orden de atacar el pueblo de Rochelinval el 7 de enero de 1945 a través de terreno abierto y sin apoyo de artillería. Sin embargo, durante el exitoso ataque de la unidad, más de la mitad de los hombres perdieron la vida. Solo 110 sobrevivieron a la batalla del lado estadounidense.
