Rochelinval had haar plaats in de Slag om de Ardennen. 250 leden van het 551e Parachute Infantary Bataljon kregen de opdracht om op 7 januari 1945 het dorp Rochelinval aan te vallen over open terrein en zonder artillerie ondersteuning. Tijdens de succesvolle aanval van de eenheid verloren echter meer dan de helft van de mannen het leven. Slechts 110 overleefden het gevecht aan Amerikaanse kant.
