Rochelinval avait sa place dans la bataille des Ardennes. Le 7 janvier 1945, 250 membres du 551e bataillon d’infanterie parachutiste reçoivent l’ordre d’attaquer le village de Rochelinval en terrain découvert et sans soutien d’artillerie. Cependant, lors de l’attaque réussie de l’unité, plus de la moitié des hommes ont perdu la vie. Seuls 110 d’entre eux ont survécu au combat du côté américain.
