Técnicamente y de forma histórica, la iglesia tiene una base románica, pero en su forma actual se clasifica dentro del gótico brabantino. El coro se completó en 1453 y la nave en 1535. La aguja del campanario no llegó hasta 1900, bajo la dirección del arquitecto Langerock.
Cuatro altares, murales en el coro, numerosos trabajos artísticos desde el siglo XVI requieren su atención. Varios de los cuadros son de Gaspar De Crayer y Pieter Jozef Verhaghen. El órgano (1786) es de Van Peteghem y proviene del Colegio Papal.
La iglesia se encuentra en una colina en la Naamsestraat, por lo que se dice que los transeúntes en la Schapenstraat “los vivos caminan entre los muertos”.
