El actual castillo tuvo un predecesor, que en 1476 fue descrito como una casa rodeada de un foso con una granja arrendada. A este edificio más antiguo aún recuerda un muro gótico de piedra de margas.
En 1617, el castillo y la señoría fueron vendidos por Ernest Van der Mark-Arenberg a Jan-Willem van Scharenberg. Este hizo construir el castillo actual. En 1688, todo esto se vendió a Pierre-Louis de Sluse de Bihain, ya que el barón Van Scharenberg estaba agobiado por deudas. En 1763, se llevó a cabo una remodelación en estilo clasicista por Jean Ferdinand de Sluse. La imagen más antigua conocida del castillo fue realizada en 1740 por Remacle Leloup.
