La provincia de East Flanders construyó un espléndido centro deportivo en la Boerekreek de 6 km de longitud. El Oostpolderkreek (2 km) y el Bentillekreek (2,5 km) están cerca. A través de esta zona natural fluye el canal Leopoldo desde Boekhoute hasta Heist, que fue excavado a mediados del siglo XIX para eliminar el agua y, por lo tanto, la enfermedad de los pantanos de esta región.
