La iglesia actual fue erigida en los siglos XV-XVI en el típico estilo gótico de Demer. Está mayormente construida en arenisca de hierro de color óxido, que fue extraída en el lugar. Las adaptaciones posteriores son de ladrillo.
La iglesia se encuentra en el centro de un pintoresco pueblo en el valle de Demer, con senderos hacia las colinas de Hageland. Se ha conservado el antiguo muro de contención de arenisca de hierro alrededor del cementerio.
El interior alberga una serie de esculturas de los siglos XVI y XVII, cuatro pinturas de los siglos XVIII y XIX y un órgano Colin restaurado. Las vidrieras fueron diseñadas a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. La vidriera central "el trono de gracia" es de Stalins de Amberes y está fechada en 1917. Además, se han donado tres pinturas de War Van Overstraeten (maestro del animismo) a la iglesia.
La historia de la iglesia está ampliamente documentada gracias a los Witheren de la abadía de Averbode, que gestionaban el servicio en Testelt.
