Durante la Guerra de los Ochenta Años (1568-1648), el gobernador español o comandante de puesto residía en esta hermosa antigua casa de patricios. Después de 1918, el edificio fue reconstruido con bastante fidelidad, aunque la parte frontal recibió un gablete adicional y una ventana de tabernáculo de estilo típico flamenco-renacentista. Este edificio se convirtió en la oficina de correos y en 1989 recibió una importante ampliación como nuevo centro de distribución postal.
