La Sala de los Paños de Ypres es uno de los mayores edificios cívicos de estilo gótico en Europa. La sala de paños original se construyó entre 1230 y 1304 y fue uno de los primeros grandes edificios al norte de los Alpes. El campanario mide 70 m de altura y se construyó entre 1200 y 1230 como símbolo del poder de la burguesía.
