Casa del historiador de Gante y factor (= poeta-presidente) de la cámara de retórica María T'Heeren, Marcus van Vaernewyck (1518-1569). Sus obras más conocidas son la Historia de Belgis (=Flandes) y su relato de testigo ocular de la destrucción de imágenes en Van de beroerlicke tijden in die Nederlanden en voornamelijk in Ghendt 1566-1568. En el frontón se encuentra desde 1880 su busto, debajo su lema "Laet vaeren nydt", sostenido por la cola de dos delfines (símbolo de respeto y belicosidad). En el siglo XVII, la casa era conocida como De bonte mantele.
