El 'Cementerio de Lone Tree' recibe su nombre del cercano 'Crater de Lone Tree' (también conocido como 'Crater de Spanbroekmolen' o 'Pozo de la paz'), uno de los 19 cráteres que se formaron el 7 de junio de 1917, en la famosa Batalla de Minas. Sin embargo, la mina en Spanbroekmolen debió haber explotado algunos segundos después, por lo que los hombres de los 'Royal Irish Rifles' ('36ª División de Ulster'), que habían abandonado las trincheras demasiado pronto a las 03:10 de la mañana, fueron alcanzados por su propia mina. Casi todas las tumbas contienen muertos de ese 7 de junio, de los cuales 60 de los 88 fallecidos pertenecían a los 'Royal Irish Rifles' ('36ª División').
