El castillo de agua Borgitter fue construido a principios del siglo XVI por Jan van Waes, drossaard del condado de Horn. Del castillo original no queda nada, solo la torre en esquina recuerda a una fase constructiva más antigua (1610). El edificio actual de estilo clasicista en estilo maaslandés data de finales del siglo XVIII y está fundado sobre pilotes de roble.
En la granja trasera del castillo se encuentran las granjas del siglo XVIII Breukskenshof y Halfeshof, la casa del administrador y un molino de agua del siglo XVII. Hasta la revolución francesa, el castillo fue habitado por descendientes de la familia Van Waes. En 1800 pasó a ser propiedad de la familia Michiels van Kessenich. El castillo y los edificios anexos han estado protegidos desde el 13 de enero de 1981.
