La hoja del roble de invierno (Quercus petraea) es ovalada a elíptica, con lóbulos regulares. No debes confundir el roble de invierno con el roble de verano, que se parece mucho. La diferencia: la hoja del roble de invierno tiene un peciolo, las bellotas no tienen peciolo. En el roble de verano es justo al revés.
Las hojas del roble de invierno a veces son devoradas por la oruga procesionaria del roble. Los pelos urticantes de esta oruga pueden causar irritación severa en personas y animales.
