El castillo Gruuthuse ya se mencionaba en la Edad Media y tiene un pasado agitado. El castillo lleva el nombre de su residente más famoso. En el siglo XV, este dominio era la finca de Luis de Gruuthuse, consejero y diplomático de los duques de Borgoña. La porta de acceso restaurada es un vestigio de esta fortaleza y es bien visible desde la Calle de la Estación. Desde el siglo XVII, Gruuthuse ha estado inextricablemente vinculado a la familia d’Ursel. El edificio actual, de estilo neovariedades flamencas, data de 1890 y es un diseño del maestro de obras René Buyck, quien también diseñó los planos del ayuntamiento de Oostkamp. Fue el conde Charles d’Ursel quien mandó construir el castillo actual y reconfigurar el parque, según los planes del paisajista Duchesne. ¡El parque del castillo solo es accesible para grupos! ¡Se requiere reserva!
