Si en Neerpelt o Hamont se habla de 'El Rin de Hierro', generalmente se refiere a la línea de tren de Amberes a través de Neerpelt, Hamont, Weert y Roermond hasta Mönchen-Gladbach. Al principio, se pretendía que en esta ruta se excavara un canal, de ahí el nombre. Finalmente, se convirtió en una línea de tren que se puso en uso en 1879.
Cuando se habla de El Rin de Hierro en Neerpelt, se refiere a la obra de arte que se ha instalado en el viaducto, el Puente Victoria, en Neerpelt.
La obra de arte en la Calle Heer es una creación del artista John Körmeling.
La inauguración oficial tuvo lugar el viernes 21 de abril de 2017.
