El castillo de Hocht y Hochterbampd se encuentra - algo aislado - cerca del Mosa, que forma el límite oriental del municipio de Lanaken y también la frontera con los Países Bajos. A principios del siglo XIX, se excavó el Zuid-Willemsvaart paralelo al Mosa. En los años 30 se llevó a cabo la construcción del Canal de Conexión Briegden-Neerharen. La estrecha esclusa de Neerharen luce espectacular dado el desnivel de casi 10 m. Filas de árboles a lo largo de los caminos de remolque acentúan ambos canales en el paisaje.
