Hocht Castle and Hochterbampd

The castle of Hocht and Hochterbampd are - somewhat isolated - located near the Meuse, which forms the eastern border of the municipality of Lanaken and also the border with the Netherlands. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Zuid-Willemsvaart was drawn here parallel to the Maas. In the 1930s, the Briegden-Neerharen Connection Canal was built. The narrow lock of Neerharen looks spectacular given the height difference of almost 10 m. Rows of trees along the towpaths accentuate both canals in the landscape.
