El lugar de peregrinación y la capilla de Nuestra Señora de Kerselare son testigos de la devoción mariana de siglos en la región, que se remonta al siglo XV. La fama de la capilla y la imagen de la Virgen se debe a los numerosos milagros que se documentaron desde el siglo XV. La capilla del siglo XVI, construida por los señores de Pamele, fue reemplazada después del incendio de 1961 por una nueva capilla de hormigón diseñada por el arquitecto Julian Lampens. La actual capilla conserva aún la imagen milagrosa de Nuestra Señora de Kerselare, una imagen policromada de estilo gótico tardío de la primera mitad del siglo XV de la cofradía de San Lucas de Mechelen.
