La estación de metro subterránea fue inaugurada el 5 de julio de 1985 junto con Houba-Brugmann y Heizel como una extensión de la línea de metro 1A desde Bockstael hasta Heizel. Desde la revisión de la red de metro en 2009, esta estación es atendida por la línea de metro 6.
Stuyvenbergh se encuentra bajo el cruce de la Houba de Strooperlaan, la Emile Bockstaellaan y la De Smet De Naeyerlaan, en el noroeste de la ciudad. La estación de metro subterránea lleva el nombre del Castillo de Stuyvenberg, que se encuentra al este de la estación en el parque de Laeken. La calle Stuyvenberghstraat se sitúa a cierta distancia al norte de la estación.
