Este es uno de los 5 pulmones verdes en la región de Gante. El Bosque Maravilloso se está construyendo por encargo de Naturaleza y Bosques en colaboración con la Ciudad de Gante y el municipio de Lochristi. La primera parte se inauguró el 29 de noviembre de 2024.
Como su nombre indica, en algún momento se pretendió que esto fuera un aeropuerto. La forma típica todavía se puede ver claramente en mapas y fotografías aéreas.
Algunos quizás lo reconozcan por el estanque de peces, el lugar de ejecución o la extracción de arena.
En el cercano lugar de ejecución se ejecutaron a miembros de la resistencia durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El terreno presenta muchas elevaciones y búnkeres donde antes se almacenaba munición. El lugar de conmemoración está protegido como paisaje.
