El antiguo ayuntamiento de Turnhout, tanto la sala de telas como la sala de carne, así como la sala de reuniones para el gobierno municipal y el juzgado, era un edificio independiente en el lado sur del mercado, situado en el eje de la calle Herentals. Su núcleo data al menos del siglo XIV y fue repetidamente afectado por incendios, entre ellos en 1716, tras lo cual fue reconstruido en estilo neoclásico; en 1936 fue protegido como monumento pero en 1962, tras la construcción del actual ayuntamiento, fue demolido por razones "técnicas de tráfico".
