El patrón santo de Aalbeke es el Santo Cornelio. Se dice que como peregrino habría caminado tres veces alrededor de la iglesia de Aalbeke. Si esto es cierto, no lo sabemos. Aalbeke fue durante mucho tiempo un verdadero lugar de peregrinación. Hasta antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, anualmente 25.000 peregrinos se dirigían a Aalbeke para exigir protección del Santo Cornelio contra (principalmente) enfermedades infantiles. Hoy en día, todavía llegan cerca de mil peregrinos a Aalbeke.
