Le saint patron d’Aalbeke est Saint Corneille. En tant que pèlerin, il aurait fait trois fois le tour de l’église d’Aalbeke. Nous ne savons pas si c’est vrai. Aalbeke a longtemps été un véritable lieu de pèlerinage. Jusqu’à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, 25 000 pèlerins descendaient chaque année à Aalbeke pour demander la protection de saint Corneille contre les maladies infantiles (principalement). Aujourd’hui, près d’un millier de pèlerins affluent encore à Aalbeke.
