La Tiensestraat es una calle en el centro de Lovaina que conecta el céntrico Rector De Somerplein con la carretera de circunvalación de Lovaina. La calle cambia allí en el Tiensepoort en el Tiensesteenweg. Desde el 1 de junio de 2013, la parte de la calle más hacia el centro se ha peatonalizado por completo hasta la intersección con Bériotstraat, lo que provocó un gran aumento de los establecimientos de restauración. De esta manera, la calle se convierte en un competidor de Muntstraat, que se conoce como EL restaurante-estado de Lovaina.
La Primera Guerra Mundial destruyó algunos de los edificios a lo largo de la calle, especialmente en la parte más antigua del centro, después de lo cual siguió la reconstrucción con arquitectura de reconstrucción.
