En la liturgia católica, un altar de reposo es un altar, generalmente ubicado en una capilla pero a veces al aire libre. Se utiliza durante una procesión , especialmente durante la procesión sacramental. Aquí el guardián (recipiente en el que se muestra la hostia) se prepara para el culto durante un período de tiempo.
Un Altar del Descanso puede ser permanente (Altar del Descanso Eterno), pero también puede ser de carácter temporal .
