En 1785 se construyó un dique de 7 kilómetros de longitud a lo largo del Escalda entre Eke y Heurne. El dique protegía al núcleo del pueblo de Zingem en el oeste de las inundaciones anuales del Escalda. En el mapa topográfico de 1873, el Escalda aún no ha sido rectificado y se pueden reconocer fácilmente las áreas inundadas del Escalda por el color verde. ¿Qué altura tiene este dique del siglo XVIII en relación con el entorno?
