Checoslovaquia [1][2] fue un estado soberano de Europa Central[3] que existió de 1918 a 1992 . Durante la era comunista su nombre oficial fue República Socialista Checoslovaca.El 1 de enero de 1993 se escindió de común acuerdo y pacíficamente, volviendo a la situación histórica anterior a su fundación el 28 de octubre de 1918 como uno de los estados sucesores del Imperio austrohúngaro, separándose en los dos países correspondientes a los estados originales: la República Checa y Eslovaquia.[4][5][6] Ambos países forman parte de la Unión Europea desde 2004.[7]
