El Kehlsteinhaus o el Nido del Águila es un lugar históricamente 'cargado'. Y sin embargo, era bastante diferente en el pasado. Hasta que Hitler decidió elegir este lugar idílico, el Obersalzberg era un tranquilo lugar de vacaciones donde se vivía bien.
El Obersalzberg estaba rodeado por una cerca de alambre de púas de 2 m de altura. Ubicado en la cima del Kehlstein, se asemeja a una cabaña de montaña y es mejor conocido como Adlerhorst.
Allí, la Kehlsteinstraße te da acceso a la montaña a través de cinco túneles. La última subida debe hacerse en ascensor.
Después de la guerra, el Nido del Águila pasó a manos de los estadounidenses. Se convirtió en propiedad privada en 1960. Ahora alberga un popular restaurante frecuentado por turistas, no solo por su importancia histórica, sino también por las vistas de los Alpes nevados.
