Il Kehlstainhaus o Nido dell'Aquila è un luogo storicamente 'carico'. Eppure, in passato era molto diverso. Fino a quando Hitler scelse questo incantevole posto, l'Obersalzberg era un tranquillo luogo di vacanza dove si viveva bene.
L'Obersalzberg era circondato da un recinto di filo spinato alto 2 metri. Situato sulla cima del Kehlstein, assomiglia a una baita di montagna ed è meglio conosciuto come Adlerhorst.
Qui la Kehlsteinstraße ti dà accesso alla montagna tramite cinque tunnel. L'ultima salita deve essere fatta in ascensore.
Dopo la guerra, il Nido dell'Aquila passò agli americani. Nel 1960 divenne proprietà privata. Oggi ospita un ristorante popolare frequentato dai turisti, non solo per la sua importanza storica, ma anche per la vista sulle Alpi innevate.
