Möhnesee es un embalse en el estado alemán de Renania del Norte-Westfalia, creado por la construcción de una presa entre 1908 y 1913 en el Möhne. El embalse se encuentra en el municipio de Möhnesee en el distrito de Soest.
La razón principal de la construcción fue el suministro de agua. Pero también la necesidad de energía de la industria emergente en la cuenca del Ruhr jugó un papel importante. Se instalaron dos turbinas Kaplan para la generación de electricidad. A partir de 2018, todavía hay dos turbinas en funcionamiento con una potencia total de 7 megavatios. La producción anual de electricidad ronda los 13 millones de kilovatios hora.
