El Nürburgring en Adenau es un circuito que es especialmente conocido gracias a la Fórmula 1, que se instala allí anualmente para el Gran Premio de Europa. Anteriormente, el recorrido llevaban a los pilotos por 22 km, a través de 172 curvas en los bosques de pinos (la Nordschleife del Nürburgring). Pero desde que el famoso piloto austríaco Niki Lauda sufrió un grave (casi mortal) accidente allí, 'El Infierno Verde', como se conocía a este circuito, ya no se utiliza para carreras de F1.
