Kohlfurth es un barrio residencial en el distrito de Cronenberg de Wuppertal, en la frontera con Solingen formada por el Wupper. En el lado opuesto del Wupper se encuentra una localidad del mismo nombre en el distrito de Solingen-Mitte.
Existen dos interpretaciones sobre el origen etimológico del nombre. La primera sostiene que el nombre proviene de una Kohlenfurth, es decir, un vado a través del Wupper, donde se realizaban transportes de carbón desde el Ruhr hacia Solingen. La más probable es la derivación de una designación de granja del Külfbach, que desemboca en el Wupper cerca de Kohlfurth. Así, en 1471 se documenta el Hof "in der Kolve"; en 1598 Kulfert; en 1656 Kullff; en 1659 Kolfert; en 1690 Kolffurt. Kolf, Kolve o Külf significa charca.
