Kohlfurth is een woonwijk in het Wuppertaler stadsdeel Cronenberg aan de door de Wupper gevormde grens met Solingen. Aan de overzijde van de Wupper bevindt zich een gelijknamige plaats in het Solinger stadsdeel Solingen-Mitte.
Wat betreft de etymologische oorsprong van de naam zijn er twee interpretaties. De eerste stelt dat de naam afkomstig is van een Kohlenfurth, dus een vlakte door de Wupper waar kolentransporten van de Ruhr naar Solingen plaatsvonden. De waarschijnlijker is de afleiding van een hofbenaming naar de Külfbach, die bij Kohlfurth in de Wupper uitmondt. Zo wordt in 1471 hof "in der Kolve"; in 1598 Kulfert; in 1656 Kullff; in 1659 Kolfert; in 1690 Kolffurt genoteerd. Kolf, Kolve of Külf betekent waterput.
